Intimacy Direction &
Fight Choreography

Fight Choreography: The fight choreographer is responsible for creating the illusion of violence on stage through a sequence of predetermined and repeatable actions.  We manipulate distance, sightlines, sounds, and the body itself to support the story and, most importantly, ensure the actor's safety.  I've worked with fight choreographers as an actor and taken classes (Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey & the Gaiety School of Acting) and workshops (including American Players Theatre) in both hand-to-hand and single sword.  I applied these skills as fight choreographer for six productions, including but not limited to Eurydice, The Crucible, and Peter and the Starcatcher (images above).

Intimacy Direction: The intimacy director functions at the intersection of fight choreography and consent.  The smallest movements, touches, and breaths are planned in advance to create a safe environment where actors feel comfortable saying "no."  My experience in a variety of intimacy workshops - most notably with Jeanine Thompson - prepared me to support our students in six productions and one film, including but not limited to She Kills Monsters, The Crucible, and Lizzie the Musical.
